12 Startups Present Impact Projects to Attract Investment in Argentina

On December 13th, a dozen innovative startups came together for the Demo Day organized by Mayma, Banco Galicia, and—joining for the first time this year—Genneia. The event, held at Plaza Galicia in Buenos Aires, marked the closing of the fourth edition of the program “Scaling Impact,” which supports businesses with social and environmental projects in their efforts to grow and attract investment.

An Acceleration Program for Impact

Over the past three months, the participating startups received more than 30 hours of specialized business and finance guidance, along with agile mentoring, support in building financial statements, and international market research. Entrepreneurs also deepened their knowledge in innovation, legal matters, and corporate risk, preparing to take their projects to the next level.

This year, in addition to the traditional categories of Inclusive and Regenerative Economy, new tracks were added for Education and Financial Inclusion, and Energy Transition and Climate Action, reflecting the sector’s growing diversity and needs.

"We bet on companies looking to scale their impact, preparing them to attract venture capital so they can seize the countless opportunities available in the region for environmentally and socially conscious products and services," said Margarita Carlés, co-founder of Mayma.

Standout Projects

At the event, over 100 people—including jury members, investors, press, and the general public—got to know the entrepreneurs' proposals firsthand. The jury, made up of experts from organizations such as Genneia, Galicia, Mayma, and Draper House, evaluated startups in key sectors such as renewable energy, biotechnology, circular economy, and financial education.

Highlighted projects included:

  • Biospi (Mendoza): This biotech company transforms CO₂ into high-value proteins using microalgae, helping reduce carbon footprints.
  • Lufindo (Córdoba): An EdTech initiative that promotes financial education through playful experiences, helping people change habits and attitudes toward money.

Both startups received scholarships to participate in the “Draper Founders Program Americas,” a global initiative supporting emerging entrepreneurs.

The winning project was Meliquina–Antú, a startup launching a solar park in Neuquén with a unique feature: equity participation by a local Indigenous community. It will be the first solar park in Latin America with such a structure.

A Growing Ecosystem

The program is supported by Genneia, Argentina’s leading renewable energy company. Carolina Langan, Head of Sustainability at Genneia, stated: “The energy transition requires a clean and sustainable energy generation industry across the entire value chain. That’s why we at Genneia believe it’s key to support new ventures aligned with our core mission.”

Banco Galicia has also played a crucial role in the program. Constanza Gorleri, the bank’s Sustainability Manager, emphasized: “We aim to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit by providing tools so more people can develop economic activities with a sustainable focus.”

The Year’s Startups

The entrepreneurs in this program presented innovative projects in a wide range of sectors. Some standout ventures included:

  • Amar Algas (Chubut): A culinary experience that promotes marine ecosystem preservation by using seaweed as a key ingredient.
  • BioSpi (Mendoza): A biotech company transforming CO₂ into protein using microalgae to help reduce carbon footprints.
  • Buply (Buenos Aires): A circular economy startup that revalues post-consumer plastic.
